I Sing Thee Name

Someone asked me why I sing. I sing because His love for me is overwhelming. I sing because I am still a sinner, and I need my Savior. I sing to express my love for Him, and to honor Him for all that He has done for me.

Why do you sing for Jesus?

Oh, How I Need You

It’s here again…

the stress, the worry, the fear;

The closer I get to you,

The more I realize

How far away I truly am.

I want to surrender,

I want to be free from this world

But still the shackles remain.

I am scared of dying,

Fearful of being hurt;

And I know you can take

These things away from me.

I’ve been praying for release,

Praying that you will protect me

But maybe I’m doing it all wrong.

Maybe I’m supposed to be

Trusting instead of praying;

Maybe I’m supposed to be

Faithful instead of scared.

Can you still love me

While consumed with such fear?

Can you forgive me, knowing that

Day after day I’m still here?

I’m not good enough

To stand next to you;

I’m not good enough

To reach out to you with one hand

And be chained to the world with the other.

But I still need you.

Oh, how I need you.

Speaking Truth Despite Fear of Rejection

I had a friend say something to me this weekend that disappointed me. It disappointed me because it was a Christian friend of mine that was expressing an idolatry mindset. God placed it on my heart to speak the truth to her, and I knew that this conviction could go either way. I did not want to lose my friend but I also knew that I had a responsibility to express my concerns because she professed to know and love our Lord Jesus. I trusted God and discussed my concerns with her. To my surprise, she had prayed to have no gods before Him just the night before, and my word for her was timely and appreciated. I felt blessed by her grace toward me because I knew that defensiveness and denial could have very well driven a wedge between us.

Lord, I am grateful to you for giving me an opportunity to be brave but also for my friend who was graceful and brave herself. We need to support and encourage each other to survive this world of sin, but to also do it with love and compassion. I hope that you will be obedient and compassionate when asked to deliver a challenging word and extend grace when receiving one.

No More Bullying

bullying_zps3f943a68

In our society, too many people seem to think it is perfectly acceptable to hurt other people with their words in the name of fun. As someone that has been picked on my whole life, I feel the responsibility to educate people on how wrong they are. Jesus calls on us to love one another, and nowhere in the Bible does it list being mean or bullying as a fruit of the spirit (Galations 5:22), and yet everywhere I turn I see it. This is not how we are to love our neighbor. There is a distinct difference between teasing and having fun with someone that is laughing back at you, and being mean for your own gain because you think it’s funny. Only the Devil is laughing when you are being mean or bullying someone. Here is a refresher on the differences…

Teasing
– Everyone is having fun
– No one is getting hurt
– Everyone is participating equally

Mean Moment
– Someone is being hurt on purpose
– Reaction is a strong feeling or emotion
– An isolated event (does not happen regularly)

Bullying
– Someone is being hurt on purpose
– Repetitive (happens regularly)
– Imbalance of power

God’s Design

Been reading about the building of the Tabernacle this morning in Exodus 36-38. One can get lost in the reading of measurements that were used to build it and all of the details BUT it is an account that shows God’s people following through on a request that He made. It is not the power of man that shines through in its stature but the power of God, and what He can accomplish through man. Let there be pillars in my life designed by God himself. The plans I have for my life are nothing compared to what God wants to build for me and through me.
